Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours has announced that it will take on full management of its entire Europe-based river cruise fleet, comprising the Rhine, Main, Danube, Saône, Rhône, Seine and Douro, in 2020. The company had been managing six of the vessels in the fleet internally since 2017, with G&P Cruise Hotel Management handling a further five.

“The decision to take back the management function of these five ships is not related to performance,” said Scenic Group COO Rob Voss in a written statement. “G&P and their crews have done a marvelous job.”

Instead, Voss said that the step is necessary for absolute product consistency and delivery across Scenic’s entire fleet as it works to become a global brand.

Scenic said that the move will also help it benefit from increased purchasing power. More importantly, having the entire hospitality crew directly employed and managed by Scenic will standardize training and career paths.

Scenic has grown over the course of its 33-year history to include river and ocean cruises and escorted land tours. The company offers river cruises in Europe, Southeast Asia, Russia and Egypt on its 15 Space Ships, while its sibling brand, Emerald Waterways, has seven Star Ships offering European river sailings with an eighth launched this year on Southeast Asia’s Mekong River. Also this year, Scenic launched its first Discovery Yacht, the 228-guest Scenic Eclipse
